Graphic Designer VS Multimedia Designer

Today we're talking about the reverse between a graphic designer and a multimedia designer what are kind of the responsibilities skill sets and really the work you're gonna be doing in these two different job titles.
Multimedia designers there's graphic designers and there's illustrators of all kinds of other job positions.

What is a graphic designer a graphic designer is somebody who works with the arrangement of elements in order to create design pieces to either promote products create informational brochures Maps just different resources that are primarily in a print format.

I mean that's been kind of historically where they rest only more recently have we moved as graphic designers for doing stuff in a digital or Matt it's kind of hard because you want to look more towards a multimedia designer in your job title.

If you're thinking digital because graphic designers do a lot of book layout magazines but then you get into the whole idea of digital publishing.

So where do these two really separate now let's talk about the key differences when you think about graphic designer.

You think about basic principles of graphic design. I think it's like line form space rhythm colour all those practices that form the basic structure of having a good grip on graphic design principles and applications.

So when you think about a graphic designer they give lap as I like some of the examples I mentioned before you'll be working primarily in the program of InDesign complemented by Photoshop in Illustrator the reason I say InDesign is because that is the workhorse of the graphic designer.

You should be running a lot of your production through InDesign has very very strong abilities to organize documents layout text and just make sure everything's very orderly within your designs.

So let's look at a multimedia designer let's just kind of break that down in a very simple way so multimedia designer is really where we're heading in this current time and beyond.

Multimedia designer is gonna work with audio they're gonna work with video they're gonna work with a motion design some basic motion graphics.

They're not gonna be you know a motion designer per se but they're gonna have some of the key abilities to create work .

I don't consider that a multimedia design I had to work in Premiere Pro a little bit of After Effects Photoshop and then I had to kind of assemble that and put it on Instagram.

Where you turn into more than a multimedia realm some basic job. You to know how to use Premiere Pro or Final Cut you don't know about video editing know about how to certain good quality audio using microphones and capture mics and things along those lines also

They're gonna even want to see some CSS and HTML may be some WordPress in there so we think about it if you're coming in to help a company brand themselves perhaps.

You're gonna be doing video you're gonna be doing may be some Instagram ads Facebook ads some of those could be animated you're also gonna possibly help them with their website so you're really kind of getting the scope of multimedia design.

Many things including phones tablets computers digital resources things along those lines but whereas the graphic designer will come in on the branding as doing business cards magazines held handheld brochures printed materials also a logo design.

Will fall into the graphic design there's camp a little bit more so you're kind of seeing this split here between like the initial branding and the day-to-day operations because with multimedia you're constantly putting out new materials.

So that's where you look at these multiple areas in the multimedia designer because they're not only doing you know Instagram ads with their pants but in the website and helping with video and audio.

So it's a very fast industry or job title on say it's looking at like pay checks and stuff the multimedia designer has a bit more of technical skills knowing how to use After Effects Premiere Pro some web design etc.

So if you kind of badge yourself in that category. I mean a little bit higher income on average the average income right now for graphic designer is anywhere from 36 to $40,000 a year.

The average income for a multimedia designer is gonna be sitting around like 45 to $60 you know that's kind of a mid-level average income between the two so I hope that really gives you a grasp on the nerves between a graphic designer and a multimedia designer.

If you have any questions or perhaps you are in the industry and you want to give some feedback on that please please do comment below give me some of your insight I would love to make sure that we're putting out the best content to help people get started whatever they're interested in whether a graphic designer a multimedia designer etc .
